There are many chicken breeds and not all of them are bred only for its eggs. They are bred both for its eggs and as a delicious table meat. The Dorking chicken produces white eggs, though it has red earlobes. It has white skin underneath its colored feathers.
The Light Sussex is a breed that is somewhat similar to the Rhode Island Red. It is also as reliable in egg production as the latter, because it produces up to around 250 eggs per year.
Another chicken breed is the Buff Orpington. This chicken is bred because of its looks. It can be moody
at times, and can only lay a few eggs. These chickens are well-liked primarily because of how it looks like – some sort of fluffy chicken stuffed toy.
For pest control, you may want to consider raising a Welsummer. This breed of chicken usually loves to go around your garden and peck for worms and bugs. They also lay a decent number of eggs per year.
Depending on what your purpose is, you can certainly raise the kind of breed that suits your needs the best. With so many to choose from, you may first want to get the advice of those with experience.
