Benefits of raising chickens

modern chicken coopRaising your own chickens, whatever your intentions of raising may be, has its benefits. With how the economy runs nowadays, people are now seeing how they can save dollars from producing their own foods, rather than purchasing from groceries. Aside from producing your own supply of eggs from the chickens, there are other benefits too.

  • Healthier eggs

If you have the ability and passion to take care of your chickens, you may be able to produce healthier chickens, and from healthier chickens, comes healthier eggs. Because chickens from factories are fed with chicken feeds that are unnatural and commercial, the eggs that come from them are not that nutritious.

Compared to backyard chickens that are allowed to peck the soil and run around, this is a normal habitat for them.

  • Tastier eggs

Because eggs from groceries are delivered from factories, which make take a day or two before it gets delivered, or sometimes when eggs do not get sold from the shelves, we may buy eggs that are days old – or even weeks old. The age of the eggs affects its taste, nutrition and consistency. However, when you have your own supply of eggs, you know how old these eggs are, and most of the time these are fresh, because you have the tendency to check on your hens every day.

  • Chicken droppings

These chicken droppings are high in nitrogen, which can be used to combine with soil in your compost bin. You now have your own healthy compost that is good.

  • Less bugs

Because chickens tend to scratch around, the bugs in the soil gets pecked and pecked all the time, lessening the population of bugs in your home.

  • Good lesson for kids

Because kids do ask a lot of questions at times, chickens can be a great way of discussing with children about the lessons on where food comes from and how food can be attained once you have worked hard for it. They can also be taught the proper way on how to take care of animals that they also need the basic needs that humans have.
